Poinsettia, A Legend

A Mexican legend explains the relationship between the Poinsettia and Christmas…

“The poor child Pepita, who was not able to buy a present to give to Christ on Christmas night, picked a few weeds on the roadside and created a small bouquet out of it. The child was told that a humble, yet loving gift was acceptable in the eyes of God. In church the bouquet started to bloom getting red and green flowers and the parish considered this as a Christmas miracle. From that moment on the Poinsettia was called ‘Flores de Noche Buena’ in Mexico.”
